    • About the Band Program

Band at Remington is available for grades 6-8 during their music block.  Students at RTS can either take Band, Orchestra, or General Music as a 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student.  In 6th grade band, students will be introduced to playing an instrument in band class.  The students will learn practice techniques and methodologies for learning and mastering their primary instrument.  During the 6th grade year, students will have opportunities to perform at least four different times with optional extra performances.  These performances include a Beginning Band Student and Parent Concert (more information to come), Winter Concert, Parade of Bands, and Spring Concert.  Optional performances include a Solo and Ensemble Festival.  In 7th and 8th grade band, students work to develop their skills on their instrument while learning new techniques and methodologies during their school year.  I have also started a Jazz Band at RTS.  This band consists of excellent players from all three grade levels and they perform two times a year.

Since I started at Remington in the 2011-2012 school year, our bands have earned a "1" or superior rating at Middle School Large Ensemble Festival (2014), we have had students represent our school in both All Suburban Honors Concert Band and Jazz Band, and our students have earned numerous "1" ratings at Solo and Ensemble Festival.
